Installation #702
January 7, 2004 - September 2005
Site: 135 Plymouth Street, #702
Brooklyn, NY 11201
The Second in the series of site-specific Window Installations, #702 was defined as the working model for future Installations. It was composed of 34 windows that were retrieved from a nineteenth-century Manhattan apartment building. The windows were divided between 2 rooms and suspended from custom mounted ceiling frameworks. The south room contained 15 windows arranged in a 300-sqft space with a 9-1/2 ft ceiling and the north room contained 19 windows arranged in a 200-sqft space with a 14ft ceiling. Throughout its construction and exhibition, mappings of the southern exposure sun and moonlight were documented both on the floors and walls as light patterns swept throughout the Installation. The work evolved into a study of seasonal light and its temporal nature, resulting in an extensive collection of images taken over its course of display.
