Installation #59A
June 1, 2004 - June 27, 2004
Site: Pearl Street Gallery
#59A Pearl Street
Brooklyn, NY 11201
The third in the series of site-specific Window Installations, #59A consisted of 11 windows salvaged from a nineteenth-century Brooklyn machine shop, suspended from a framework, custom built into a 14ft ceiling, within a 186-sqft gallery space and arranged to envelop the viewer in a translucent environment. Transparency images of previous installations were mounted on select windowpanes and illuminated by the sun's ambient light, while additional transparency images were mounted into custom light boxes and displayed on the surrounding walls. Over the course of exhibition, mappings of the western sunlight were documented both on the floor and north wall as light patterns swept the gallery. The resulting photographic images taken over the course of display serve as a documentation of the temporary work.
